Lemmy Documentary finally makes it to LA

saw this post on noisecreep and it was kinda crazy because last friday i saw Lemmy at the bow... playin the machine in the corner... and i was like.. why isnt there a movie about this dude??? lo and behold... there is!

from noisecreep:
The documentary 'Lemmy: 49% Motherfucker, 51% Son of a Bitch' premiered last year at the South by Southwest conference in Austin, Texas. But any film about Motörhead icon Lemmy Kilmister doesn't really premiere until it hits his adopted hometown of L.A. That finally happened Jan. 13 at L.A.'s Vista Theater.

Several of his friends, including Duff McKagan. Robert Trujillo, Slim Jim Phantom, Ron Jeremy, Steve Vai and Henry Rollins came out to support the rocker who Dave Grohl calls "the baddest mother fucker on the planet" in the film.

Zakk Wylde's New Book

this is from http://www.zakkwylde.com/

BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN by Zakk Wylde out May 10, 2011

William Morrow, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers today announced plans to release on May 10, 2011 the handbook to all things heavy metal: BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN by Zakk Wylde, guitar legend and Black Label Society frontman. Wylde invites all who dare onto the tour bus for tales of glory, debauchery, and general mayhem. The book is co-authored by Eric Hendrikx.
In BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN, Zakk Wylde, the man who turned heavy metal touring into a journey of fantastical excess, shares what really goes on behind tour bus windows and backstage doors. The twenty-five year music veteran of the Ozzy Osbourne band and Black Label Society details his survival techniques for maintaining a life on the road, managing a band of raging vikings, and somehow making it on stage and blowing the crowd away night after night.
Beginning with Wylde’s “true rocker test” (TRT), the reader answers and self-scores ten questions to determine if he is a true rocker and should continue reading, or if he’s just a complete tool who needs to hand the book to someone more metal. Wylde continues the journey with his epic stories about life on the road, using his Black Label Society (BLS) coaching techniques to instruct the reader on proper touring hygiene, pre-concert preparations, and post-show etiquette. The road stories include wild nights with many of heavy metal’s gods including; Rob Zombie, Eddie Van Halen, Dimebag Darrell, Alice In Chain’s Mike Inez, Skid Row’s Snake Sabo, Metallica’s Lars Ulrich, professional wrestlers Chris Jericho, Bubba Dudley and Stone Cold Steve Austin, UFC Former Light Heavyweight Champion Forrest Griffin and of course the Godfather of heavy metal, Ozzy Osbourne.
BRINGING METAL TO THE CHILDREN also features Wylde’s roadmap for success in the music business, tour planning and exclusive tips for the aspiring “metal musician,” as well as the best methods for surviving a mosh pit and plans for how to set up a shooting range on the tour bus.

ABOUT THE AUTHORS:
In the two decades since Ozzy Osbourne hired him away from his job at a New Jersey gas station, Zakk Wylde has established himself as a guitar icon known and revered the world over.  Wylde has won nearly every guitar award imaginable, graced countless magazine covers and is a major influence to a new battalion of rock guitarists.  Writing and recording with Osbourne led to multi-platinum success, inspiring him to create the now iconic Black Label Society in 1998.  In the decade plus since, BLS has turned the notion of what a rock band should be upside down by inspiring legions of fans (known as Berserkers) all over the world to follow the mantra: Strength, Determination, Merciless, Forever (SDMF for short).  Wylde and his Berserkers have established a heavy metal institution true to the vision of uncompromising, unfiltered and unrestrained rock ‘n’ roll.  To date, Black Label Society has sold more than 3.5 million albums worldwide and continues to be a massive presence on the worldwide touring and merchandising circuits.  Black Label Society’s latest album, ORDER OF THE BLACK, was released in August, 2010 and debuted at #4 on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart.
Writer, photographer, and fellow Berserker Eric Hendrikx is a notable contributor to more than a dozen books including Forrest Griffin’s New York Times bestsellers Got Fight? and Be Ready When the Sh*t Goes Down. A lifelong musician, Hendrikx played guitar in the rock band Snake River Conspiracy and toured with bands including Queensrÿche. He currently lives in Southern California with his son Stone.

Skins for AX7 ??? - Portnoy n AX7 split - from Metal Insider

Early this evening, it was confirmed that Avenged Sevenfold has parted ways with former Dream Theater drummer Mike Portnoy, who has been filling in for the band on the road and in the studio since the passing of Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan. Portnoy released the following statement:
“Yes, the rumors are true… Sadly my time with Avenged Sevenfold has come to an end… The band has decided to carry on into 2011 without me…I had a great time with them throughout 2010, but it was their choice to end the relationship at the end of 2010 as was always the initial plan….
I had an awesome time on stage with the guys every night and have so many cool memories from the experience with them… I am proud to always be part of the Avenged Sevenfold family and history. I also adore the Avenged Sevenfold fans and totally appreciate the way they welcomed me aboard and were so loving and supportive during my time with the band…thank you!
As far as my future, I am excited by the endless musical possibilities that lie ahead of me…my love for music runs very deep and my taste is very broad and ecclectic which will give me the chance to explore many different things and collaborate with many great friends and artists I admire and respect…
Happy holidaze to you all and c-ya in the New Year.”
This certainly comes as a major surprise. Since departing from Dream Theater back in September, many thought that Portnoy’s involvement with the band would eventually become permanent. It also seems like weird timing for this to happen, since Avenged Sevenfold still has a lot of touring commitments to fulfill, including their Nightmare After Christmas tour. It also seems like Portnoy was hoping/willing to continue at least a little further. So what gives? This would further explain, though, why they recently canceled their involvement with the Australian Soundwave festival. We’ll keep you posted when more information is revealed regarding both Portnoy and A7X’s plans.

Hinder's All American Nightmare - Billboard Review

Written by Gary Graff
Hinder drops its third album, "All American Nightmare," with a chip on its shoulder and a palpable sense of something to prove, given the sophomore sales slump the Oklahoma quintet suffered with 2008's "Take It to the Limit" (469,000 sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan) in comparison with its 2005 triple-platinum debut, "Extreme Behavior." So the group comes out firing hard on "2 Sides of Me" and the title track, channeling four years of heavy touring into tales of wine (or, rather, good beer), women and song. Hinder spends the rest of the set delivering solidly written, meat-and-potatoes tunes made to slide comfortably, if a bit anonymously, into any rock radio playlist. "Put That Record On" slips some country-flavored lope into its verses, while "The Life," "What Ya Gonna Do" and the lush "Everybody's Wrong" provide some ballady respite to the slamming fury of "Waking Up the Devil" and "Strip Tease." Frontman Austin Winkler does have the temerity to ponder what happens "when the whiskey ain't workin' any more." But what Hinder learned on the road, at least according to "All American Nightmare," is how undependable girlfriends are and how badass this hard-partying band can be. That can be a dream or a "Nightmare," depending on the ear of the beholder.

Ratt - Infestation - The Worley Pig

Ratt, Infestation
Shamelessly unapologetic worshipper of the 80s Metal that I am, if you’d told me last year that in 2010 I’d be putting an album by Ratt, Los Angles-based icons of Hair Metal, on my list of favorite CDs, even I would have laughed you off the face of the Earth. So no one was more surprised than me to hear Ratt, valiantly holding on to most of its original line up (RIP Robin Crosby), sounding as on top of the rock world as they did in 1987, serving up a collection of classic metal songs with more visceral sex appeal and crunchy, loud guitars than you could imagine. Someone tell me where these guys are hiding their time machine.

from The Worley Gig

thought this was a good write up on this album, i too was surprised to find tunes u cld actually get into rather than it just sounding like a bunch of bside tracks that didnt make it into their 80s albums.

saw them at key club i think with warner drive- solid show... warren d is a fn great guitarist...
